The Early years

( 1932 - 1953 )

1932 Commercial Printers Incorporated, formerly Walton Printing Company, was purchased at auction on the Columbus, Georgia courthouse steps.
1933 Tom Morgan was hired by CPI as a full time artist.
1934 CPI purchased their first offset printing equipment, a 17 x 22 Harris press.
1938 CPI expands their facility from a 40 x 100 ft. building, to 9000 sq ft.
1942 Tom Morgan was named plant manager of CPI.
1945 CPI rep roduced the world famous “Unfinished Portrait of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt” by Elizabeth Shoumatoff.
1946 CPI landed their first national account, “The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company” ( A&P ).
1946 Litho - Krome became a registered trademark in Georgia.
1948 J. Tom Morgan was named the President of CPI.
1948 The Litho - Krome laboratory in Atlanta was established for licensing the “LK Process”.
1949 Litho - Krome rep roduced the photograph “Wine And Cheese” by Victor Keppler, for the Harris Press Company. It won 1st place in the New York Art Directors contest of color lithographs. This lithograph is part of a permanent exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution.
